The Quote of the Day Is This...
This quote resonates with me deeply because I find myself to be somewhat of a wanderer. In American culture, wandering has gotten a bad wrap. However, I feel that some of the most successful individuals all tended to wander at times- they self-evaluated, reflected, quit their job and saw the world, meditated, found Jesus or Allah or Buddah, started to paint, to read, to wonder.
When I was asked to "claim a major" in college at the ripe age of 18 years old, I had absolutely NO CLUE what I wanted to do with my life. All I was worried about was pledging the right sorority and if any cute guys were on my dorm floor (there weren't). I am a big proponent of colleges where you can take various classes without necessarily claiming a major right away. Discovering what you are passionate about and what makes you come alive is a life-long process, and you should never stop learning about yourself. It is so vital that we explore what interests us (I talk more about this topic here) and support others to do the same.
I did not discover my passion for design and fashion until after I walked across the stage and accepted my diploma in business. I do love the corporate world, and don't regret gaining knowledge in all manners of management, marketing, energy, motivation, and entrepreneurship. However, it wasn't until I had the liberty to decorate my first apartment that I discovered how much interiors truly made me sparkle with excitement. So, as the late Steve Jobs says best, "...the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking, and don't settle. As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it." I love that. Keep wandering, loves.
I love that quote. Totally makes me think of why I became a teacher...if you love what you do, you'll never work a day in your life. xo
ReplyDeletelove this Sam! Right there with ya! xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quote! You're right, there is so much pressure to know what you want to do with your life, as if there's just one right answer. I think it takes more courage to wander, dream, change course or simply live with the question for awhile. Thanks for this inspiration today!
ReplyDeleteI love that quote! I'm still trying to find what I am truly passionate about. I just recently made the big decision to apply for grad school at NYU (half way through the application now!) and move to NYC. I am literally counting down the days! It just took me a year after graduating to realize that I am not happy in my job, and I'm ready to wonder. Love your blog, it's so inspiring!
