Bare-Faced & Beautiful

In an age of chalky foundations and fire engine red lipstick, seeing someone with a bare face can be refreshing.  That's why I was delighted to read in the latest issue of W Magazine that when it comes to makeup, less will be more this season.

I'll be the first to admit I don't have flawless skin.  Going completely makeup free would scare me (and probably others, too!).  I love a dark cat eye as much as the next girl, but I do like to tone down my makeup most days when I'm working or going to school.  Here are the products I swear by when creating a natural look:

There are a few tricks you can incoporate in to your beauty routine that will give you a flawless finish:

1.) Exfoliate your skin with a deep cleanser.  This will help slough off dead skin and provide a clean surface for makeup application.  Having pretty bad acne in my teens, my dermatologist got me hooked on the SkinCeuticals line back in highschool.  To this day, I still use the Clarifying Cleanser.  It's a wonder product.

2.)  Illuminate the face with a highlighter.  This will awaken your face, diminish under-eye shadows, and help contour your nose and cheekbones. Artists have long understood the importance of luminosity, and it's high time we understood it in our beauty routines, too!  I swear by Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat.  I'm so excited to hear YSL will be releasing the Le Teint Touche Eclat foundation next month.  If it's anything like the highlighter, I'll be hooked.

I also like to add a swipe of eyeshadow in a natural shade.  This gives me a hint of color.  My favorite is vanilla sugar by Bare Minerals.  Swipe on mascara and a little lipgloss, and you're ready for your day!

  2. I'm excited to hear about this cleanser! Even though I'm well into my twenties now, I still fight some mild acne, and it is SO frustrating. I haven't found a cleanser that makes any sort of massive improvement so I may have to give this a try. Do you use any of their other products?

  4. I'm a firm believer that a healthy tan is the best makeup you use! :) Makes skin glow.

  6. Oooh I love that you mapped out the products to get the "no makeup" look! I love the look, but I hate to admit that I'm never comfortable to go sans makeup for an everyday look!

  7. I'm glad to know of these products! I wear minimal make up from day to day. At my age, and being a mom, I'd look silly wearing much!

  8. While it's fun to get dolled up every once in awhile with a bold lip or eye, I think that the natural look is perfect for most of the time. I love that this look is coming into more recognition!

  9. There is something to be said about deliberate simplicity. I have been wanting to try the YSL Touche Eclat- I have heard so many wonderful things about it.

  12. I've been dying to try that YSL highlighter and it's funny, my sister has been trying to get me to switch up my Armani foundation for that Dior product. Gonna take you up on some of this advice Sam and see what kind of "natural" look I can pull off.

  13. I must be one of the few humans on earth who thinks she looks better without makeup on. Although i have scars on my face from breakouts, i always feel like an alien when i have makeup on.

For the most part, i usually am bare faced with just a slick of lip balm. But when i feel a bit dressy, i wear some eyeliner and tinted lipgloss.

It's always easy for others to know when i have foundation on because i look completely different and somewhat awkward lol

  14. Man, if I could look that good wearing little makeup I'd be all over it. I feel like I look like a boy when I don't have on full makeup. Probably because I don't really know what I'm doing :D

  15. I agree with less is more! I promised myself I would trade in my thick foundation once it ran out. And I think I'm going to be facing that promise here in a few days!

  16. My goodness, as soon as I saw this I knew I HAD to share it with the girls that are doing the 40 day makeup-fast with me! Of course, none of us look anything like the gorgeous, glowing girl pictured, but after being makeup-free for just over three weeks, my face is looking better than it ever did. Still, after the 40 days is up, I can see reaching for my mascara pretty quickly. I really miss having amazing eyelashes. :)
