Needing, Wanting, Loving: A Navy Velvet Sofa

You may recall earlier this winter I spoke about the design industry's current fixation on cobalt blue.  I love the richness of the hue and how it can add a bold pop to a room- but I'm not sure I feel confident enough about it's longevity to purchase a sofa or larger upholstery piece in the shade.  However, take it down a few notches to navy, and I'm sold.  Combine it with the glamour of velvet, and you've got yourself a sofa made in furniture heaven...

I love seeing navy juxtaposed with corals and oranges:

Or balanced out with carmels and grays, for a boho feel...

Delicious... no?  What do you think?

  2. Love it! The couches all look so regal and inviting. When paired with coral, it feels very stylish beach house!

  6. Almost went navy with my sofa, but decided on chocolate brown velvet instead. I love this look. Navy is such a great anchor color and velvet is always scrumptious.

  7. I'm so stuck on this too!! Emily Henderson's navy headboard? I have a little breakfast nook in my house and I'm thinking the benches should definitely get a navy treatment.

  8. I have been feeling for a couple years now that I cannot live without a navy velvet sofa. I feel like it can go in any home, traditional, contemporary, boho, modern. One day I'll get there...

  9. ok, great minds think alike...me too....I'm undecided on a blue like this or a gray velvet....for the sofa in my living room....I want the room to be very monochromatic....Let's see....but the blue is definitely so luxe!

  13. I always wanted a velvet sofa, but with our two cats it'll be messed up in no time. If you get navy, pair it up with orange-yellow-something!

  15. It's so funny, we recently got a gorgeous gray sofa from West Elm (which I LOVE), but isn't there something special about a deep blue color. Adds certain depth to a space.

  17. I wouldn't get a cobalt blue sofa, but a navy one, sure! Navy blue is my favorite color and I found the perfect microsuede fabric to reupholster my couch. Navy will always be a classic like black, white and neutrals.

  18. I've had a navy sofa for 20 years and change the colors with it often. It is really versatile. You won't be disappointed. I also have had white sofas my whole life and that is something I'll never live without. So excited for your nuptials this year! Such fun planning- enjoy every second. Xo Nancy

  19. I love the navy velvet sofa! I made my headboard out of a navy velvet and love it! It does feel glamorous, but is also great for wear and tear. In such a dark color, you won't get the fabric messy.

  20. These are great tips. Sometimes we get in a rut placing the furniture one way and just by changing a few things around, you can transform a whole room. Nice examples! my home page
