Hello, hello! Happy Tuesday! Thank you all for your thoughtful comments and emails regarding yesterday's post. I always love hearing your thoughts and perspective on my more contemplative posts. But today, we are focusing on a delicious material that I have been obsessing over lately- burl wood. Burl wood is cut from burls, which are tree growths with a deformed grain. However odd they might look from the exterior, they yield a wood that's prized for its beauty and rarity. Additionally, burl wood is extremely hard to work with and takes a skilled craftsman lots of time and energy to construct, which makes burl wood pieces all the more special:
And how unexpected and beautiful is this burl wood kitchen island? I've never seen such an exquisite amount of detail be poured in to kitchen cabinetry!
So what's your take? Are you a fan of burled? As Jessica from The Aestate said, "I like my furniture like I like my men- burly and made in the 70s."

I love it! So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI always loved the look, but had no idea of the history behind burl wood. You're right, that totally makes it more special (and makes me think of Aidan from SATC). Thanks for sharing... now wanting all the more!
