New Project: Cakewalk Style Shop

Happy Monday!  I hope you had a great weekend.  Mine was so refreshing.  I did a lot of resting up, working on homework and projects, and just relaxing.  Sometimes those are the best weekends. Today I am excited to share with you a fun new project I am working on.  You may have seen me post about Cakewalk Style Shop before (here and here), a chic women's clothing and accessories store here in Houston.  One of the co-founders, Jennifer Grigsby, is loosely related to me and is kind enough to style me from time to time.  She has impeccable style and encourages me to take fashion risks- like this Tibi lace top + Vince leather shorts combination:

Something I would never pick out for myself- but when she suggested it, I tried it on and loved it!  Her Cakewalk business partner, Gina Cartwright, is the genius behind Charmed Circle jewelry. About a month ago, they moved their store to a gorgeous new location off of Westheimer and Kirby, directly next to Matt Camron Rugs.  How adorable is the exterior of their store?!

Even better, the interior of the store is filled with gorgeous duds from Joie, Haute Hippie, DVF, Tibi, and more.  Gina and Jennifer have already styled their new space beautifully, complete with a floral antique settee and stunning chandeliers.  In their last store, Cakewalk worked with design firm Munger Interiors to create a beautiful space for their customers.

Although the main retail space design of their new store is for the most part completed, they have a few areas they are wanting my help with, as well as their personal office spaces in the back of the store.  The first spot is Gina's Charmed Circle display wall.  While we want to keep the focus on the jewels, the white walls combined with the white cabinetry and shelving is a bit "blah."  I thought adding a wallpaper to the wall that would add a sense of texture and "focal point" while not overpowering the merchandise would be perfect.

I brought a few samples for the girls to look over and their favorite was Schumacher's Metropolitan Fret.  The paper is designed with tiny glass beads that give it a shimmery, metallic-like texture:

Now, for the back office spaces.  Gina's office has large windows on two of her walls.  Unfortunately, during the afternoon, she is nearly blinded by the sun shining in!  The space is an older building, and replacing the glazed windows with regular ones isn't an option right now.  We are after a functional and beautiful covering that will allow them to work without sunglasses on!

I am loving the thought of doing a cornice board above the window with short flowing drapery on each side.  Then, to keep the unwanted sun out, have bamboo blinds installed.  I love the idea of doing a tape-trimmed cornice:

And lastly, we need to find some good storage solutions for the girl's offices.  They need to have a space to pack and ship online orders, store additional merchandise, work on their computers, and store office supplies.  With little space to do this, we have our work cut out for us!

We also plan to wallpaper Jen's office.  Since she spends a lot of time working on her computer, she wants to be surrounded by a "happy" environment!  Of course when she said "happy," my first thought was Quadrille.  She loved Paradise Background in Turquoise:

I think it will look gorgeous and fun with her pink upholstered Knoll office chairs.  I can't wait to share progress with you guys and of course, the final result!
If you live in Houston, be sure to go visit their store at 3201 Westheimer, or shop online here.

  7. We are so excited! I'm so looking forward to the day when we're not tripping over boxes or stepping on each other's purses. I'm glad there's not a pic of the back office (mine); it's scary! We know the project is in very capable hands. We are so appreciative of your time and talent and we love your aesthetic. This will be a fun process!
