Needing, Wanting, Loving: Louis XVI-Style Dining Chairs

Happy Monday sweet things.  Another day, another dolla.  Did you have a fun weekend? I hope so! We went to a former client-turned-friend's home on Friday for a wine and pizza night, and Saturday I celebrated a friend's 27th birthday by going to a Houston Astros game.  Bailey also hosted a re-opening party for the new location of Biscuit Home Saturday, so I had to stop by and see the pretty new 9,000 square foot space.   If you are in Houston, be sure to check out the new location off Westheimer near Montrose- it's where BJ Oldie's Antiques used to be, and it's phenom.  Today I wanted to talk about my current fixation on Louis XVI chairs.  To give you a brief historical background, the Louis XVI chair became popular during the reign of (you guessed it) French King Louis XVI and the Neo-Classical Period, around 1760-1790:

The period saw a revival of classical Greek and Roman motifs and design principles, mainly because Pompeii had just been discovered.  The legs of the chair are always fluted and straight, and more refined/restrained than the previous Louis XV chair.  To me, it has a more modern feel and can transition well in both traditional and contemporary interiors.  I love how they look as dining chairs:

I love seeing a Louis XVI style chair upholstered in leather.  It's so chic and unexpected, especially with a nailhead trim:

A caned-back gives the typical chair motif a fun flair:

And how fun is this contrasting upholstery?  A contemporary chevron print on the back paired with a traditional blue and white is unexpected and freshens up this space:

This last picture is a perfect example of Neoclassical chairs working well with a more modern interior.  The angular brass + glass dining table is perfectly paired with black Louis XVI dining chairs.  I love!

What are your thoughts?
