My Thoughts on Guy Style

I recently finished reading Mindy Kahling's book, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? And Other Concerns wherein she chronicles the hilarious ups and downs of being a comedy writer and producer.  Like most celebrities, she can't help interjecting a few pieces of advice  throughout the stories, and I was pleasantly surprised to see an entire chapter dedicated to men's style.  In the intro, Mindy says, "Forgive me, but being a guy is so easy.  A little Kiehl's, a little Bumble & Bumble, a J. Crew peacoat, and Chuck Taylors- and you're hot."

I definitely think Mindy is on to something here.  A few key pieces for a man can really work wonders for his overall style- as my favorite male fashion blogger, Adam Gallagher, proves above.

Just as she mentions Chuck Taylors, I also love to see guys wear Vans:

Another one of my favorite looks on a man is a sweater layered over a button up.  Stripes, in general, seem to look great on most men.

When it comes to jeans, I think a dark wash straight leg is the way to go.
And absolutely no embellishments, rhinestones, or huge labels- you're better than that, guys!

One common mistake I see men make deals with pairing a tie to their collared shirt- mixing patterns is never easy, but this chart is very helpful.  The most important rule of thumb is that your tie should always be darker than your shirt.

{I always swoon for a tie bar}

So what constitutes a man over a boy?  Mindy shares her thoughts:

"Men know what they want. Men make concrete plans. Men own alarm clocks. Men sleep on a mattress that isn't on the floor. Men tip generously. Men buy new shampoo instead of adding water to a nearly empty bottle of shampoo. Men go to the dentist. Men make reservations. Men go in for a kiss without giving you some long preamble about how they're thinking of kissing you.”

I sure do love men. :)
