Feeling Southern

Today our office is headed down to Charleston to set up our design atelier at Fritz Porter, and I couldn't be more excited.  I adore Charleston.  The cobblestone streets, local antique shops, beautiful architecture, and lovely people make it one of the most charming cities in America.  If you haven't gone before, you must go.  If you have, then you know exactly what I'm talking about.  We're going to be working hard to get our Amanda Nisbet Design booth up and ready at Fritz Porter (come visit and shop Amanda's favorite things during the month of May if you are in Charleston!) but we plan to eat one evening at the 0 George Hotel and I'm hoping I can grab a lobster roll at 167 Raw.  With Charleston on my mind, I've been inspired by southern interiors and landscapes.  The space alone makes my NYC heart jump.

If you're a fan of Ballard Designs, than you'll surely love the company founder's lovely Atlanta home:

Joni shared the interesting back-story of Helen Ballard Weeks and the creation of Ballard Designs, as well as an entire tour of her delicious Atlanta house.  It's worth the read.

Now we go to a different city to study designer William McLure's work- Birmingham, Alabama.  Although I've never been to the state, McLure's eclectic mix of styles in many Birmingham residences feels like enough to drawn me there.

So many of my favorite Southern elements are at play in his rooms- from the palmetto leaves, to the breezy linen fabrics, to the painted wood floors and seashell artifacts- it's reminiscent of a slower, more relaxed pace of life.

But to end this post about my southern design inspiration, we have to go back to Charleston!  Sarah-Hamlin Hastings, the owner of Fritz Porter (the design store where we are doing our pop-up atelier for this month, featuring a gorgeous mix of furniture, decor, and home accessories) shared her home on Look Linger Love earlier this year, and it has me swooning:

I love her modern kitchen with the marble backsplash and a Lindsey Adelman light fixture:

The backyard pool and landscaping is my favorite part:

A beautiful mix of palm trees and steel-framed windows:

Have a lovely Monday and a great week!
